2020 Advent Devotions
Saturday, December 12 - Lori Genchur
Psalm 16:11 “You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.“
What is joy? The definition will vary from person to person. We might associate joy with a win for our favorite sports team, a great new job offer, or the birth of a child. All of these things indeed would bring great joy!
However, we may go days, weeks, or even months without a significant joyful event in our lives. Does that mean joy is absent in our hearts as we go about our daily activities?
For the past 7 months, life has certainly been challenging for all of us. It is in times such as these that I believe we are able to find joy in the simplest things in life. With the world on “lockdown” and so many working from home, we were forced to slow down and appreciate the everyday blessings that God has bestowed upon us. Personally, I found joy in spending more time with my husband and children, and enjoying many things I otherwise would have been too busy to notice or partake in- the changing of the seasons, family games around the table, and trying new recipes, to name a few. Perhaps joy is ours to find. God places moments of joy before us in many ways, but only we can put our faith in Him and choose that joy, even in the most trying of times.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for the abundant joy you provide. Amen.
