2020 Advent Devotions
Tuesday, December 15 - Sally Keister
Luke 2:10 “But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for see - I am bringing you good news of great joy for all the people .”
I would imagine that all of us can say that we have received good news or experienced great joy many times throughout our lives. Maybe it involved the results of a worrisome medical test, a job offer or happy news about a family member. Typically, at such times, our first response is to share that good news or joy with others.
As Christians, we are fortunate that over 2000 years ago we DID receive good news of great joy. News that was for all people. News that needed… and still needs… to be shared.
A coworker once told me that his church was doing a living nativity during the Christmas season. His teenage daughter, who was also a cheerleader, had the role of the angel who told the shepherds about the birth of Jesus. She was to climb on the roof of a small building and utter the words the angels spoke to the shepherds those many years ago. My friend gave his daughter orders that she had better use her best cheerleader voice to proclaim the good news of great joy for all to hear.
Now, when it seems there is little good news and even less great joy in our world, let us not forget that we have been given the best news and the greatest joy. And may we use our best cheerleader voices to share it with all people.
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, use our voices to proclaim Your message to all that you have sent us a Savior. Let us not be afraid. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
