2020 Advent Devotions

Psalm 126: 2 “Then our mouth was filled with laughter and our tongue with shouts of joy.”
I have found that, if I look for it, most of my days are filled with joy-----maybe not GREAT joy, but joy nonetheless.
In the winter, I look forward to the first snow, and am so happy when it finally arrives.
In spring, I look forward to watching flower bulbs burst from the soil and flowers grow from seed and am so happy watching my garden grow.
In summer, I look forward to a week at the beach and days spent at the pool or Laurel Lake.
In recent weeks, as I am driving on Trindle Road, headed to Carlisle, I see the sun rising in my rearview mirror, and the sky is a beautiful salmon color. I am filled with joy at the possibilities a new day holds.
Spending time with my sons, my daughters-in-law, my grandchildren and /or my sisters is something I look forward to and it fills me with joy.
An unplanned trip to the grocery store (I love grocery stores), a winery in Manheim, a trip to Lititz or a long weekend at the beach with Steve makes me so happy and fills me with joy.
A lunch time walk with a dear friend on a warm, sunny autumn day; soap making with my oldest, dear friend; or having coffee and desserts on a Sunday afternoon with friends from church fills me with joy.
Helping prep for Second Saturday generally fills me with joy.
Walking my sweet dog, Ginger, fills me with joy.
A delicious dinner----whether at home or out----with Steve fills me with joy.
Finally, at day’s end, a cozy house, a comfortable bed, reflecting on the day, giving thanks for it all brings me joy, as does waking up after a good night’s rest. If you look for it, most days of our lives are filled with joy.
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for your many blessings and for giving me the ability to find joy in the ordinary. You have blessed me richly. Amen.
