Proverbs 17: 6 “Children’s children are a crown to the aged, and parents are the pride of their children.”
One of the greatest new joys to come to Paul and me has been our grand girls. From the time we were told we were going to be grandparents (through the Valentine’s Day gift of a picture frame containing a fuzzy sonogram picture) we have experienced an ongoing inexplicable joy! We always heard other people talk about their grandchildren and their accomplishments and we listened hard heartedly to the stories. But being presented with our own has been entirely life changing. We were handed a small wrapped bundle and expected to instantly love and accept it. What a strange experience! So much expectation and anticipation! Slowly, slowly the joy and love for them has grown. Each smile, hug, picture drawn or note or text sent our way has caused us such great joy that we could never have imagined! We are full of joy with them for each of their accomplishments. We are excited to hear about the new things they are doing and so happy when they ask our opinion about anything! It makes us feel good when they ask what it was like when we were little. Maybe our egos just need pumped up sometimes. But no matter – the joy they provide to us is truly God given and God inspired. And we are ever thankful to Him for what He has given us.
Prayer: Dear Jesus, thank you for children and grandchildren and the new joy they bring into our lives. Guide, guard and protect them against all evil. Inspire grandparents to be good examples of what you want future generations to become. Amen.
