2020 Advent Devotions
Saturday, November 28 - Diane Boone
Luke 2:10 “And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord.”
Babies are one of many ways that God fulfills God's promises to God's children….a promise of relationship, a covenant through the generations. I cannot think of many other things in life that bring more joy than the birth of a baby! Good news of great joy came to Stephen and me in early March with the birth of our third grandchild.
But then came Covid. I personally know of nine babies that were born during Covid this year. In the midst of concern for health and safety and hospital stays of isolation from family, God breaks through the fears of Covid and any questions about the unknown. God reminds us through the birth of a child, God is committed to a future relationship with new generations through faith, forgiveness and salvation. Always……….God delivers good news of great joy!!!
The following written by a new mom illustrates this joy.

Sweet 2020 Baby,
I just want to say thank you.
Because in many ways, this year has been a mess.
A bit of a disaster, really.
But you.
You’ve been the light in the darkness.
The calm in the chaos.
The joy in the midst of a whole lot of hardship and pain and frustration.
So I know people will talk about 2020.
They’ll talk about the stress and the fear and the sadness.
They’ll recount every bit of the hard stuff that’s brought tears to my eyes more times than I can count.
But I’m just so glad that, when I think back on this year, I also get to think about you.
Because you’re such a gift.
A gift from God.
The sweetest blessing.
And even though things looked a little (okay—a lot) different than I’d planned, and it certainly wasn’t always easy or comfortable, your timing couldn’t have been more perfect.
So thank you, little one.
Thank you for allowing me to be grateful for 2020.
Because God gave me you. -Krista Ward
Prayer: Merciful and gracious Father, we praise and thank you that you break through the despair of Covid to bring us joy and fulfill promise in
the birth of a child. You give us peace in the knowledge that the covenant with your children is a promise to ALL generations. Thank you for
the assurance that you are always with us in every circumstance. Amen.
