2020 Advent Devotions

Sunday, November 29 - Michelle Zettlemoyer

Psalm 63: 6-7  “For you have been my help, and in the shadow of your wings I will sing for joy. My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me.”

Good news comes in many forms - a marriage, a new baby, recovery from illness, etc. But good news isn’t limited to big and dramatic events. God’s good news comes in the blessings we receive each day if we just take a moment to see them. These often fleeting moments are themselves tidings of great joy!

Throughout this uniquely challenging year, I have been reminded of these daily blessings in the midst of what can only be called chaos for many reasons. In my most frustrating, discouraging and overwhelming moments, God has shown Himself to be right beside me:
  • ….an angel-shaped cloud in a beautiful, blue sky on a day I wasn’t sure I could handle the stress
  • ...the message “God loves you and forgives you” on the screen when I turned on the TV on a day I wasn’t being my best self and felt really alone
  • ...the song “Oceans (Where Feet May Fail)” by Hillsong UNITED playing on the radio on a day I was questioning my ability to rise to the challenge of being hopeful
  • ...the daily devotion that seemed written just for me on a day I wasn’t sure I had anything left to give

During Advent, we prepare to celebrate the BEST news and God’s greatest gift - the birth of Jesus Christ. But the daily blessings like the ones I received are gifts themselves. They remind me that God is always with me and that He is walking with me through my journey on Earth. They are tidings of the great joy He wants to give to all of us, simply by having faith that He will take care of all of our needs.

Prayer: Dear God, please continue to proclaim your good news every day and open our eyes and hearts to respond with great joy. Amen.
